President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the Government was well aware of their targets.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in Muleeaage to welcome four new signatories from Fuvahmulah to ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.
He said that it was difficult to believe the claims made by some that the Governments usually remained directionless in the beginning of democracies and added that this was polar opposite for the Maldives, widely accepted to be in the infancy of democracy.
President Yameen said that senior positions of the Parliament and the Government are filled by those who are fully aware of the present circumstances, the present status of the nation and well versed in how to conduct a fledgling democracy. He also said that the decision makers of the nation had the benefit of reflecting on method of rule in other nations and thoroughly versed in our laws.
He also said that Maldivian democracy had grown out of the infancy stage.
President Yameen stated that his work was always focused on creating a united, safe nation and a nation that was self-sufficient. He also stated that the Minivan 50 had given us a glimpse of how nationalism would be preserved in the hearts and minds of this generation in the next 50 years.
He added that there are certain lines that cannot be crossed in expressing free speech and that they were clear of those limits given that they had practiced those measures ethically, as the former opposition.
President Yameen added that in spite of the difficulties facing the present government, he was focused on ensuring that he fulfills his aims to create a stable, prosperous society.
