Izzuddin Jetty has been opened in a colorful ceremony, after intensive renovations to the old Male’ Jetty.
The jetty has been renovated into a new design and was opened last night by Minister of Defense and National Security Moosa Ali Jaleel, Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam and Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed.
President Abdullah Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim welcomed guests who disembarked on the jetty. Former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom and Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed, Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Maseeh, honor recipients of the
state and Cabinet members were among the guests. Additionally, Members of Parliament, heads of Government institutions, prominent businessmen, scholars, entertainers and sports figures were also in
attendance.
The jetty is designed in the form of three sails on traditional boat Speaking in the ceremony, Chief of Staff Major General Ahmed Shiyam noted the assistance of many involved in the project, especially that of Chinese Government and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives. He also noted the assistance given by Foreign Ministry, Customs and MNDF in the project.
Major Shiyam said that the project, which was completed in a short period of time, was perfectly executed due to the vision of President Abdullah Yameen.
The jetty was constructed by MTCC. The ceremony was concluded with cultural activities, a musical water display and fireworks. With the changes to the jetty, the face of Male’ undoubtedly has changed drastically.
