President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has on Tuesday, ratified the Fourth Amendment to the “Decentralisation Act” (Act No. 7/2010). Following ratification, the two bills have been published in the Government Gazette.
The amendment to the Decentralization Act, proposed by MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, says that an election is not necessary to pick a new councilor, if a councilor resigns before reaching the retirement age.
