Islamic Ministry has stated that the illicit trade of drugs has to be completely controlled and all avenues for drug entry closed in order to halt the drug epidemic facing the nation.
The Ministry made the statement in a sermon released in connection to the International Anti- Drug Day. The sermon said that the use and trade of drugs were strictly forbidden in Islam.
“Islamic Shariah exists to protect Islam, wisdom, oneself, younger generations and property. Drugs are against Islam because it takes away the user from the remembrance of Allah,”
The sermon said that the use of drugs was a personal pitfall with some dying from overdosing and other complications. The sermon also said that one who does not have control over himself does not have any value attached to his life.
The sermon added that a user many times sacrifices his family and wealth in order to get a fix.
“We can prevent that. Prevention is better than cure. The best solution for this is stronger religious belief and faith, starting fom a young age. If such values are inculcated from a very young age, then they can distinguish right from wrong. In addition to this if we can provide them with good company, they will shy away from all that is forbidden in the religion.”
