Adeeb fires back at VP Dr. Jameel
Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb has fired back at Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel, following his allegations that was to be impeached under a Constitutional coup.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, VP Dr. Jameel stated that the no confidence motion filed against him was “a constitutional coup in the guise of constitutional reforms” and called on friends of Maldives to “step in” as “they understand what’s happening.”

When asked if he meant Indian government should intervene, he added cryptically, “I don’t need to spell it out. But, it is clear what their role should be”.

He added that the Members of Parliament had claimed that he failed to fulfill his duties. However, Dr. Jameel stated that the President had not complained of any such issues. He added that he had fulfilled all the responsibilities he had been assigned.

Dr. Jameel added that he may return back to Maldives at any time.

Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb, widely believed to be Dr. Jameel’s replacement, had fired back at the interview.

As such, Minister Adeeb stated that Dr. Jameel had worked with the opposition to bring a coup. He stated that Dr. Jameel’s impeachment was not a “constitutional coup”. Adeeb said that Dr. Jameel’s statements were a fabrication.

Adeeb said that Dr. Jameel was implicit in a coup attempt against the Government.

He added that Dr. Jameel had “no reason to flee” the country, with the no confidence motion looming ahead. Instead, Minister Adeeb called on Dr. Jameel to respond to allegations and work to ensure that the no confidence motion would not be passed.

Adeeb added that Dr. Jameel calling for international intervention was a cowardly attempt. He said that Dr. Jameel was calling for international intervention in an attempt to create another coup, when the first attempt had failed.

Minister Adeeb stated that impeaching Dr. Jameel from his position was not a coup as it was carried out within legal means.
