Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Rajiv Shahare has stated that the first ties between India and Maldives were formed in education.
Shahare said that India and Maldives had bilateral relations in various fields and noted that education was the most significant of the ties. He cited that this was evident in history as well. Shahare stated that many students who had studied in India had come back and were working in high ranks of the society.
Shahare stated that when education was restricted to certain sectors of the society, many had fled to India in pursuit of education. As such, he noted that the first President Al-Ameer Mohamed Ameen Dhoshimeyna Kiligefaanu and many scholars of that time were taught in India.
Shahare added that many students from various parts of the world, such as Africa, had studied in India and now were playing pivotal roles in determining the future of their respective nations.
Shahare stated that India was a key partner for most countries in providing quality education. As such, he noted that India had provided many education opportunities in various fields, then and presently.
