Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that all obstructions in the way of the Health Service Providers should be removed.
Abdulla Riyaz made this remark speaking at the Twenty-Sixth Sitting of the Second Session of the People’s Majlis held yesterday, in the plenary debate progressed on the government proposed Bill on Health Professionals.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the reason for the lack of or shortage of health experts in the Maldivian health sector should be found and resolved.
“We know that many capable and academic Maldivians in the field of health go abroad for various health related jobs. I believe that if salaries and allowances that is appropriate for their expertise are given then they will come back and work in Maldives,” he said.
In addition to this, Abdulla Riyaz said that they should also be provided with proper security. He said that it is common in Maldives that some people forcefully close down health service providers whenever an unfortunate incident occurs.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the government proposed Bill on Health Professionals is a very important bill. “We are lacking health professionals. Not only in Male’ but even in the islands. There is a shortage of specialists. I request the government to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” he said.
“Foriegners are brought. And we have to be sure that these foreigners are qualified enough. We have heard of many foreign doctors working in Maldives for years without the proper certification. This is something we should be very concerned about,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bill was tabled on behalf of the Government by Hussain Mohamed Latheef, MP for Fares-Maathoda and 11 MPs spoke on the time allocated for debate.
