Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced that the Party will issue a three line whip to support the changes to the age criteria for the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
If the motion gets passed from the Parliament, only candidates falling in to the 30 to 65 year age gap will be eligible to contest in the elections. Additionally, ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom and JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim will not be eligible to contest in any elections.
Qasim had previously issued many appeals to the members of the Parliamentary Group to support the motion.
In addition, he had announced that he will not contest in any future elections and contribute to the nation from a humanitarian platform. Qasim said that he will carry out his humanitarian work, especially on the education, economic and social sectors.
