Restaurants should not be opened within Parks- Abdul Ghafoor

Kulhudhufushi constituency MP, Abdul Ghafoor has said that opening of restaurants in children’s parks have been witnessed in Male’ City and this should never happen.

MP Abdul Ghafoor made this remark speaking at the Twenty-Sixth Sitting of the Second Session held yesterday, plenary debate continued on the Bill on Amendment to the Decentralization Act, tabled on behalf of the Government by Riyaz Rasheed, MP for Vilufushi constituency.

“Some councils have made mistakes. However there are laws that mention the steps to be taken against those who do wrong. Why is that the law is not being implemented? The law should be applicable on all. Even the poorest should get the safety granted by law. The problem is we are not providing that,” he said.

He said that the restaurants in social areas such as parks should be closed down and this should never repeat.

MP Abdul Ghafoor also said that all councils should not be treated as the council which did wrong. He said that the one who does the wrong should be the one that should be punished.

Abdul Ghafoor expressed his opposition to the Bill on Amendment to the Decentralization Act, and said that if the bill is passed then the Decentralization Act will be void.

He also noted that the government is not providing sufficient assistance and cooperation to the councils. He said that the government should not do anything that deprives the councils of all its powers.
