Secretary General of SAARC calls on the Foreign Secretary
SAARC Secretary General Arjun B. Thapa, called on Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed at Foreign Ministry yesterday morning.
This is the first official visit by Arjun B. Thapa after assuming the post of Secretary-General of SAARC in March 2014.
During the meeting, Foreign Secretary congratulated Thapa on assumption to office as the Secretary General of SAARC and expressed confidence in his leadership to steer the Organization in strengthening and promoting regional cooperation.
Foreign Secretary also congratulated the Secretary General for the announcement of 18th SAARC Summit, to be held in Kathmandu in November this year.
Secretary General briefed the Foreign Secretary about the current status of areas of regional cooperation under the purview of SAARC including SAFTA, matters relating to connectivity as well as upcoming SAARC meetings.
The discussion between the Foreign Secretary and the Secretary General also focused on making SAARC more action oriented and result based, especially creating conditions for greater trade, investment, and travel between the countries of SAARC.
The meeting was also attended by Joint Secretary, Farzana Zahir, and the Director of the SAARC Division Ibrahim Zuhuree.
