Lafarge Maldives has opened a cement silo in the Thilafushi silo terminal, which is a 4000 metric tonne facility.
This is the largest cement silo opened in Maldives. With the new facility, the total area of the cement silo is now 9000 metric tonnes.
The new facility was opened up by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and Lafarge Cement Managing Director BreeceOrden Reece and STO Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer.
Lafarge Maldives was opened in 1999, under an agreement between STO and Lafarge Cement in order to build a trade terminal in the Maldives. The project was the brainchild of then STO Chairman and present President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom.
STO reported that due to the new silo the construction industry of the nation would get a boost, with higher quality products made to international status being available for the market.
