Maldives economic ties with China will not affect Maldives India relations- President

President Abdulla Yameen has said that the Maldives strengthening economic ties with China will not in any way affect the relationship between Maldives and India.

President Yameen made this remark speaking to the press at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport following his official visit to China to participate in the official ceremony of the second Youth Olympics held in China.

The President said that India also has the opportunity to assist Maldives in every development project. He said that the government is working with India in many diplomatic works in addition to this.

President Yameen said that agreements such as SOFA agreement and protection of the sea area are agreements signed with India after he became the President of Maldives.

In addition to this, the President noted that Japan is also a very close country to Maldives. He said that Japan has signed agreements to assist in developing airport terminal during his official visit to Japan.

He said that no country will be not be affected by the agreement signed with another country.

President Yameen said that no country has raised any such concerns and he said that he does not believe that any country will express such concern.

Furthermore, the President said that he is hopeful that the Hulhumale’-Male’ bridge project will get the aid of China.
