Companies that took part in the China-South Asia Exposition and Kunming Import and Export Fair has stated that Maldivian products such as canned tuna and other fish products were well received by the Chinese market.
Speaking to Miadhu News, MIFCO stated that the company’s products earned a lot of support from the fair. MIFCO noted that the tuna jerky made for Japan market was well received by the China market as well.
Ensis Fisheries’ Waseem reported that their products also were successful in the fair.
Adnan from Horizon Fisheries also reported positive results and noted that as this was the first time the company had taken part in such a fair and as such were not fully prepared for such a fair.
“We had assumed that this was only going to be a demonstration. Therefore, we came with only a limited amount of samples. Had we known that the fair was designed like the nights markets, we would have brought more products for sale. Visitors wanted to buy 20 or 30 cases of each range. Hopefully, we will be more prepared for the next fair,” he said.
MIFCO, Horizon Fisheries, STO, Ensis, MMPRC, Saba and Economic Ministry were among the 10 parties that made up the Maldivian contingent at the fair.
Fair organizers had given the stalls free of charge, along with zero costs for preparing the stalls. The participants noted the assistance given by Chinese Government and Kunming Local Government Authority and thanked them for their assistance.
Adnan from Horizon Fisheries stated that normally fairs of this nature came at a huge cost for participants. However, he stated that in this fair, the only expenses they had to incur were the cost of travel and accommodation.
“This is a great opportunity China extended to Maldives, a great help. I thank Chinese government and Kunming Local Government for their assistance,” he said.
The products from Maldives has been marketed to a huge audience by the China-South Asia Exposition and Kunming Import and Export Fair.
