MP for Komandhoo constituency, Ahmed Nashid has said that the health sector will face many challenges if the Health Services Bill is passed in its current form without any amendments.
Nashid said that the bill stipulates the closing of a whole medical institution because of an accident caused by the negligence of a staff.
“The bill speaks of a Commissioner of Quality. And the bill gives this Commissioner of Quality the authority to investigate. This is an authority given by the constitution to another party,” he said.
Nashid said that the Health Services will define the rights of the staffs of the health service providers. He said that there is no need to bring those issues in this bill. He said that there is a health professionals bill which defines those rights.
“The bill also speaks of the State, the government and the public. There is an obscurity regarding the meaning of these terms in the bill,” he said.
Nashid said that officials of the WHO are also not pleased with the bill. “They have noted that all these bills should be synchronized,” he said.
