Police launchestwo forms of notices for protests
Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched two forms of notices for protests to be filed 36 hours before any protest.

An announcement made in the Police website stated that Police have to be informed of any protest 36 hours prior to the protest. The announcement added that protest organizers have to be present in a meeting arranged by the Police to discuss the issues regarding the protest.

Police stated that protest leaders should inform the Police of the protest via a form and sms. In the form, details of the protest such as corresponding Police office, full information of the protest leaders and the date, time and duration of the protest. Additionally, the routes on which protests will take place have to be mentioned in the form. If the protest is one that is organized by a political party, a copy of the decision of the Party regarding the protest has to be filed with the form.

In addition to the form, protest organizers can inform Police via sms sent to 9888899. All information in the forms must be sent in the sms.

Freedom of Assembly Act states that Police have to be notified of the protests 36 hours before the protest. The principles of the notice will be published by the Police.

The new principles on the notice have been issued at a time when a mass rally for this Friday had been announced. The protest is to be a sit-ing protest on MajeedheeMagu.
