Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has called on President Yameen not to belittle the elderly.
The Party made the statement following President’s Office Spokesperson’s comments that there were some confusion regarding the President’s statements regarding the Hajj quota for the Maldives in a ceremony hosted by the President.
Muaz stated that President Yameen had assured that 142 will be able to complete their pilgrimages this year. He stated that the main essence of the President’s speech was that the Hajj Corporation would be in charge ensuring that they will receive assistance in going to the Hajj.
A statement released by MDP stated that the President had attempted to “deceive” the public and that many elderly had shared their concerns regarding the issues with the Party.
“President Yameen had congregated an assembly and spread misinformation regarding a tenet of Islam. This is concerning to MDP. It is more concerning when they state that it is the elderly who are confused about the President’s statement,” the statement said.
