With regards to the accusations, President Yameen had announced that he would be pressing criminal charges against Sheikh Imran.

Sheikh Imran had stated that the murder of the Parliamentarian needed to be looked into more thoroughly and had called for full disclosure of all the information available to the Police, as it was in the interest of the public.

Many have described his speeches as terror speeches, as he has a tendency of using the word “Jihad”, the Arabic term meaning “holy war”.

Lawyer Ali Hussain had argued that the meaning of the word “Jihad” cannot be condensed to intentions of using violence. He argued that even though the word has been used, the actions must be looked into as well. He cited the scholars have said that amending the wrongs in the society and for oneself was also a form of “Jihad”.
