President urges opposition to commence dialogue instead of making excuses

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has urged the opposition parties to commence dialogue of all parties with the government instead of making various excuses.

President Yameen said that he had invited all three opposition parties to engage in negotiations and added that the agenda for the talks had already been clarified.

He added that all parties are welcome to raise any other concerns during the talks as well. He said the talks will show how much the opposition parties are committed for the betterment of the nation.

The President reiterated that he will not accept any excuses before the opposition engages in the negotiations.

He said that the opposition should seek resolving issues through the Peoples’ Majlis and the Judiciary instead of trying to resolve them on the streets.

"Political opposition parties need to be very strong. All of their works does not need to conclude on the streets," the President added.

He said that, in a democratic system all solution should be sought within the set legal boundaries.

Meanwhile, the Jumhooree Party accepted the invitation of the government to the conference of political parties, held towards ensuring ‎more efficient nation building efforts and countrywide development, as well ‎as to promote solidarity and unity amongst the Maldivian people.

The Government appointed the Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, Minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. ‎Mohamed Muizzu and the Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq ‎Ibrahim to represent the Government in the proposed deliberations with the ‎Jumhooree Party. ‎

Jumhooree Party also appointed a four member team to represent the party during the discussions with the government.

The four members are Jumhooree Party Deputy Leaders Ameen Ibrahim, Ilham Ahmed, Parliamentary Group Leader Kinbidhoo constituency member Abdulla Riyaz and Parliamentary Group member Mathiveri constituency MP Hussein Mohamed.

In a letter sent to the President’s Office, Jumhooree Party welcomed the three proposed deliberations noted by the government.
