Majlis will come to a stop if opposition is not given chance to comment on the bill- MDP
Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that the Peoples’ Majlis will be obstructed if the opposition is not given any chance to comment on the Special Economic Zone Bill.
In a press conference held yesterday at MDP Office, Maradhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Shareef said that Majlis will be stopped if PPM does not give them any change to speak on the bill.
He said that the MPs affiliated to the current PPM government were violating in-house regulations to expedite and coerce undue passage of the bill.
Shareef said that PPM members were being hasty and working in a dictatorial manner to pass the bill without considering the amendments and concerns raised by opposition MDP and Jumhooree Party members.
Shareef said that he does not believe that the bill can be passed without their participation. Shareef said that MDP is against the Bill on Special Economic Zones as proposed to the Peoples Majlis by the government, because it would open up a number of dangerous in roads to contravene Islamic Sharia, the Constitution, Laws and the sovereignty of the Maldives.
