High Court has upheld the Criminal Court arrest order against Sobah Rasheed, a council member of the Jumhooree Party.
High Court stated that there is no room to annul the Criminal Court order against Sobah. The court said that there is no evidence to state otherwise.
Sobah’s attorney, Ahmed Shafeeg said that it is surprising that there are comments not made during the Criminal Court or even the High Court in the verdict.
Shafeeq said that his client Sobah was arrested on the allegations of instigating the people against the security forces.
Police arrested 195 people, including minors, and the leaders of all the main opposition parties during the Mayday protest.
MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed, Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla, and Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrhaim were all arrested in the early hours of the following morning, under a court order alleging them of attempting to overthrow the government.
The crackdown by the Yameen regime constitutes one of the biggest mass arrests in the Maldives’ history.
