Jumhooree Party has raised concern and condemned the death threats made against the Jumhooree Party leader and Maamigili constituency MP, Gasim Ibrahim and his family.
Jumhooree Party stated that the death threats were made against the Jumhooree Party leader to obstruct him from advocating for the rights of the people inside and outside the Peoples’ Majlis. The party stated that some politicians are involved in this planned out scheme.
The party called the authorities to investigate the case and bring those who are involved to justice.
Jumhooree Party stated that the party condemns this cowardly act which violates the right of freedom of speech granted by Article 29 of the constitution and which obstructs the works of the members of the Peoples’ Majlis.
Some of the sms messages sent from an unlisted number from 13th of this month and on 16th read: “If you make such speeches we will kill you”
Another sms message read: “We will wipe you and your family.”
Meanwhile, government recently terminated some agreements with the business enterprise owned by the Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim.
