68th Indian Independence Day Celebrations Started in Maldives
On the occasion of the India’s 68th Independence Day, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the High Commission premises today morning. The event was attended by around 350 persons comprising members of Indian expatriate community, Maldivian friends of India, High Commission officials and their families.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the High Commissioner Rajeev Shahare followed by singing of National Anthem and patriotic songs. High Commissioner H.E Rajeev Shahare greeted fellow Indians with Independence Day wishes and read out the Address of the President of India, delivered to the nation on the eve of Independence Day.
He also noted the upcoming milestone of the 50th anniversary of India-Maldives diplomatic relations in November 1, 2014. He thanked organizations like the India Club and Friendship Association of India Maldives for their contribution to the bilateral relationship between India and Maldives by organizing the India-Maldives Friendship Festival, which ends today.
