Former Commissioner of Police and current Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that there is danger of getting proficient and skilled police officers if salary and allowances of police are not reviewed.
Abdulla Riyaz made this remark speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis regarding the issues and concerns of the Maldives Police Service.
He said that there is the danger of losing good academic officers of Maldives Police Service when the state economy gets better. He said that there will be people who will be hesitant to join the police force because of there being room for political influence due to the current regulations.
“The salaries and allowances currently received by the police should be reviewed. When the economic state gets better I believe there will be many who will change to the private sector,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz also said that he does not believe that the officers of Maldives Police Service are getting what they deserve.
In addition to this he said that the damages and harm inflicted upon many officers during the unrest of February 8.
