Govt does not give any priority to the rights of employees- Shidhatha
Shidhatha Shareef has said that the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom does not give any priority or importance to the rights of employees.

Shidhatha said that the government has not even been respectful to the agreement made with ILO to give opportunity to create Trade Unions under a law.

She said that the government having the majority in the Peoples’ Majlis yet not making any laws to establish Trade Unions shows that the government does not give any importance whatsoever to the rights of the employees.

She also noted that the government so far 12 people have been terminated from their positions. She also noted that several people were calling their hotline, and clarifying further information.

Shidhaatha stressed that many are being put under intense pressure and are being demoted from their positions, for the possible participation at the protest.

She said that the pressures of the government on Gasim Ibrahim is a huge blow to the economy. She said that this will create many difficulties and challenges to many employees.

Shidhatha added that this is a slavery that the future generations of Maldives would have to face.
