Former Minister of Islamic Affairs during the regime of MDP, Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari has said that the Mayday protests were held with a noble aim.
Dr. Abdul Majeed made this remark speaking at a press conference held at the Adhaalath Party office yesterday. He said that before the protest the President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla and informed him in detail regarding the purpose of the Mayday protest.
He said that Sheikh Imran noted four points. “To call the government for a free trial as there are many questionable things regarding the trial of former President Mohamed Nasheed. To review the trial of former Defence Minister Colonel Nazim as there enough evidences against the charges. To ask the government to stop all oppressions against Gasim Ibrahim. To stop all forms of tyranny against the people,” he said.
Dr. Abdul Majeed said that Sheikh Imran never mentioned of a coup or rebellion plan. “Sheikh Imran said that he will be working with a new leader in the next election,” he said.
Hussein Rasheed said that Islamic texts clearly forbid oppression of all forms
“He said that leaders who whip their people and incarcerate them is from the signs of the End of times,” he said.
