Various activities to be held to celebrate Independence Day Golden Jubilee
Government has revealed that various activities are being planned to be held to celebrate the Independence Day Golden Jubilee.

At the press conference held at the President’s Office to brief the media about the activities, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that the government has decided to open a large mosque as part of the celebration activities which will be a display of the Islamic identity of Maldives.

Dr. Shaheem said that the mosque will designed using Turkish mosque architectural designs and the government has submitted a request of assistance to the Islamic council of Turkey for this. He said that the discussions are now currently ongoing with the Turkish Islamic council.

Dr. Shaheem said that the mosque will be built in Hulhumale’.

In addition to this suggestions are open for the public on how to hold the activities on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the independence of Maldives.

Home Minister Umar Naseer said that the 25th anniversary of the independence of Maldives was celebrated colourfully by the then government and therefore the government also wants to celebrate the golden jubilee of the independence of Maldives.

Umar Naseer said that a forum will be held next week and Maldivian companies and organizations will have the opportunity to participate in the forum and make suggestions on how and what activities to include during the celebration.
