Committee and Majlis will come to a stop if laws are broken by challenging the minority- Eva
Galolhu Uthuru constituency MP, Eva Abdulla has said that although the ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has the majority of the Peoples’ Majlis and the committees of the Majlis, if they work by breaking the laws and challenging the minority then the committee and the Peoples’ Majlis will come to a stop.

Eva Abdulla made this remark speaking at the yesterday’s session of the Peoples’ Majlis. She said that the works of the committees are related to the works of the Majlis and if the committee works are going in another direction then the Majlis speaker will have to take the necessary steps.

“This is now how the Majlis should work. Majlis should be a place where the minority and all the parties are respected. The committee cannot continue like this. Your party members are doing what they want, saying what they want in the committees and are claiming that they can do whatever they like,” she said.

Eva said that the Chair of the Committee on Economic Affairs does not listen to the recommendations and amendments suggested by the members of the Jumhooree Party and MDP. She said that the chair only listens to the members of PPM alone.

“The Committee Chair does not refer to the regulations of the Majlis nor to the regulations of the committee,” she said.

She requested the Speaker to look into the matter and take action against the committee chair. She said that if the Speaker does not do that then the committee cannot continue its works.

“If the Committee on Economic Affairs does not work then the Majlis will also come to a stop,” she said.
