Kinbidhoo constituency MP and Deputy Leader of the PG group of the Jumhooree Party, Abdulla Riyaz has said that no political opponent has any opportunity in the Maldives now.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the government is framing, prosecuting and imprisoning all political opponents.
“President Nasheed’s trial was unfair and unjust. Colonel Nazim was arrested without any due right. MP Nazim was also sentenced unjustly. This is the tyranny of the government to destroy all their political opponents,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz said that if the government is not arresting their opponents then they try to hold them in shackles by intimidating them.
“Look at the situation that the Jumhooree Party leader is forced into. Government is trying to destroy him and make even breathing difficult for him. Thousands of people will be face the damages done to Gasim Ibrahim. The government does not show any concern to this,” he said.
He said that destroying political opponents is the destruction of democracy. “Political opponents are not enemies of the state. They are the people who take the government to account for their actions. Government is destroying their opponents because they are a dictatorship. Dictatorship is the biggest obstacle and the biggest danger for the future of this nation,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz said that all of the citizenry of Maldives should be concerned with this. “All should stand up and join the Mayday activities for this reason,” he said.
