Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer has called Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) not to take money from the bank accounts of Villa Group even if MIRA freezes the accounts without a just verdict.
Sameer said that the 90.4 US dollars demanded by the government is baseless and this will be exposed if a just trial is held regarding the matter.
He said that MMA is the central bank of Maldives and should protect the rights of the people as they protect the rights of the government.
Sameer said that Villa Group is a private company but 25 or 40 percent of the economy of Maldives is based on the company. “Therefore this company is connected to the rights of the people. MMA should consider this fact,” he said.
Sameer said that MMA will know better the damages that will be done to the economy of Maldives if the government bankrupts the Villa Group.
He said that MMA is an independent body which has the choice to make the right and just decision.
