Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has said that no chance will be given to a committee formed by the President to sell the nation in the guise of economic zone.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark at the sitting of the Peoples’ Majlis while boycotting the meeting of the Committee on Economic Affairs held to review the Bill on Special Economic Zone, submitted on behalf of the Government by Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, MP for Vilimale.
Gasim boycotted the committee to protest against the current procedure followed by the Committee on Economic Affairs.
He said that if the bills submitted by the government are passed without any amendments then the President will get the authority to form a committee to sell the whole nation in the guise of economic zones.
In a previous meeting of the committee, Gasim said that the economic zones of Maldives should be developed in a way that the people gets the benefits equally.
Gasim said that Male’ Atoll and Ari Atoll has so many resorts developed in them that much of the income of the state comes from those two atolls.
He added that if an economic zone is to be developed in those atolls then there is nothing but the sea for it in those two atolls.
