Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the government has so far spent MVR 126 million for every island of Maldives.
Ameen made this remark speaking at the “Maldivians against tyranny” rally held last night at Villimale’.
Ameen said that the expenditure of the government has reached MVR 2 billion per month and that is MVR 126 million per island.
He said that the people should not check whether the government really spent that much on the development of each islands.
“Especially for smaller islands. We should check whether the government really did anything to develop these islands whether it be with regards to the education sector, health sector, transport and other than that,” he said.
“Nothing was done. What they only do is inaugurate different places. The youth are saying that that’s not what they need but they are in need of job opportunities,” he said.
Ameen said that the problem is that the government feigns ignorance regarding these needs of the youth. He said that the government believes that the youth are with them because they are cutting ribbons for different ceremonies.
