Changing top posts of Police with change in govt is a problem- Abdulla Riyaz
Former Commissioner of Police and current Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that change of the top positions of the Maldives Police Service with the change in the government is a problem.

Riyaz who served Maldives Police Service for 24 years said made this remark at the Twenty Second Sitting of the Second Session of the People’s Majlis held yesterday following the submission of the Bill on Amendments to the Maldives Police Act (5/2008), on behalf of the Government by Hussain Manik Dhon Manilk, MP for Th. Guraidhoo. The bill was accepted for consideration with unanimous votes by 74 MPs.

Riyaz said that there are issues in the Police Service. He said that the article 16 of the bill should be amendment.

“Even then the laws were made granting authority to the Home Minister to make orders on specific groups,” he said.

On acceptance, the Bill was forwarded to the Committee on National Security for review. 30 MPs spoke on the bill, during the time allocated for debate.

The First Reading of the Bill was held on 17 June 2014, at the Third Sitting of the Second Session of the Majlis.
