Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the government is taking everything from the powers bestowed on Male’ City Council by the constitution.
He made this remark at the press conference held yesterday at Adhaalath Party office by the “Maldivians, against Tyranny” movement.
Ameen noted that the government has already reclaimed the land and office given to the council. He said that this a clear example of oppression by interference in administration.
He said that the government has slowly taken the power of the City Council until only the Council Members themselves are left remaining. He said that all their power has been taken one after the other.
“At this rate the government will target the residents individually. Oppression has become rampant in the society today,” he said.
He appealed all people who are against oppression to come to Male’ to participate in the May Day rally.
