Jumhooree Party leader, Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim has said that the economic zones of Maldives should be developed in a way that the people gets the benefits equally.
Gasim made this remark during the discussions held on the Economic Zone Bill at the review committee. He said that if the income generated used on a specific zone then economic zones should be created in all parts of Maldives and should be developed.
He said that this will bring many developments to the country and also generate job opportunities for the people of those areas and generate money for those areas.
“Eva just said that a percentage of the profit generated by developing an economic zone in a specific area should be given for that area. I am against this. The reason is this economic zone you are speaking of should be developed in all parts of Maldives. If this is not done then we do not want to develop it. We do not want to make others suffer while this specific area enjoys progress and development,” he said.
Gasim said that Male’ Atoll and Ari Atoll has so many resorts developed in them that much of the income of the state comes from those two atolls.
He added that if an economic zone is to be developed in those atolls then there is nothing but the sea for it in those two atolls.
