Trip of Maldivian Athletes to China should be a trip to strengthen bilateral relations-Chinese Ambassador
Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Wang Fukang has requested the Maldivian athletes going to China to participate in the Youth Olympics to make it an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relations with Maldives and China.

He made this remark speaking at the function held on honour of the Maldivian delegation going to China.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Male’ City, the Ambassador Wang Fukang said that 3787 participants from 204 countries will be participating in the youth Olympics which will be commenced within 5 days.

The Ambassador said that the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the Maldivian government gives special importance to sports. He said that the Chinese government will help Maldives in every way possible.

The Youth Olympics is a sporting event tailor-made for today’s youth of the world. In 2001, Jacques Rogge, former President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), proposed the Youth Olympics. Singapore held the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010. The second Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held in Nanjing from Aug. 16-28. China sent 68 athletes to the Singapore Youth Olympics, winning 30 gold, 16 silver and 5 bronze medals.
