People should come out and terminate agreement with govt- Ameen
Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim has said that the people should come out and terminate their agreement with the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom if the President does not show any intention to good governance.

Ameen Ibrahim made this remark speaking at the public rally held last night at Addu City by the “Maldivians against tyranny” movement.

He said that the people appointed President Yameen for one reason and that is to govern in accordance to the constitution.

He said that the President himself has repeatedly promised for a good governance however everything that he has done so far was against those promises.

Ameen said that if President Yameen has the intention for a good governance than he would not tyrannize the people. “He would not have arrested opposition leaders without any right. He would not be arresting nation’s veterans. He would not have frozen all the accounts of Gasim Ibrahim and would not have tried to bankrupt him,” he said.

Ameen said that, in the notice sent to Villa Group it was said that, agreements made by the government with Villa Group were terminated due to “dishonorable intentions” on the part of Villa Group. Noting that the deadline to pay the amounts claimed by MIRA came to a close on April 17, 2015, Ameen said that it is likely that Gasim too will be treated in the same manner as other politicians before him. Ameen however noted that, freezing the accounts of Villa Group would be akin to freezing the accounts of the whole population.

“We do not know whether it would be tomorrow that the accounts will be frozen. This is a matter of grief. It would make us very miserable. When Villa Group’s accounts are frozen you are not just freezing Gasim Ibrahim’s accounts, but you are also freezing the accounts of local businessmen. You are freezing the accounts of Maldivian citizens. You are freezing the accounts of Maldivian scholars funded by Villa Foundation. You are freezing the accounts of Maldivians who are abroad getting heart transplants, kidney transplants and other medical procedures, with the help of Villa. You are freezing the accounts of small businesses across the Maldives. You are freezing the accounts of the Maldivian public” Ameen said.
