MDP Deputy President Shifaz has said that oppressing the Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim is the same as oppressing the constitution.
He made this remark speaking at yesterday night’s public rally of the “Maldivians against tyranny” movement.
Shifaz said that the green constitution came into existence with the hard work of the people on the streets and the sacrifices of MDP President Mohamed Nasheed and Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim.
Therefore he said that imprisoning Nashees is as the same as imprisoning the constitution and oppressing Gasim is the same as oppressing the constitution.
Shifaz said that the constitution is in need of the people to stand in defence of the constitution. He said that the people can achieve freedom and victory like they did before by coming out to the streets.
He said that the responsibility upon the opposition is to make the government accountable for their actions. He said that it is also the responsibility of the opposition to bring an end to the government if the government fails to be accountable for their actions.
