Minister of Defence, Mohamed Nazim who is the interim Health Minister has said that the top priority of the ministry of Health is now to rectify the regional hospital services.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Minister Nazim said that the rectifying process will be commenced soon. In this regard, he said that the works on finding the resources to the hospitals and increasing doctors and nurses will also be commenced soon.
“Top priority is rectifying the condition of the regional hospitals, finding the resources and increasing doctors and nurses. There is a lot of work to be done to develop the regional hospitals of Maldives,” he said.
Nazim said that health authorities will be discussed regarding the development of the health sector of Maldives.
Minister of Defence, Nazim was handed over the management of the ministry of health following the rejection of the President’s nomination for the post of Health Minister Dr. Mariyam Shakeela by the Peoples’ Majlis yesterday.
When the issue was put to vote, following the submission of the report by the Committee on Oversight of the Government, 11 MPs voted in favor while 61 voted against of the appointment. There was 1 abstention.
The report was submitted by the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Oversight of the Government, Ibrahim Shareef, MP for Maradhoo.
