Galolhu Dhekunu constituency MP, Ahmed Mahloof has said that he will stand against tyranny regardless of the intimidation by the government by detaining him.
He made this remark speaking at last night’s rally of the “Maldivians against tyranny” movement. He said that he is not the least worried that he was not given the VIP services at the Dhoonidhoo detention center that is given to MPs.
Mahloof said that he can tolerate to stay where ever the common people can tolerate to stay.
He said that the judge Bari who gave him the condition to not participate in any protests for a month is the same judge who sentenced former President Mohamed Nasheed for 13 years in prison.
“He repeatedly threated on imprisonment if I do not agree with his condition. However I told him that I do not believe that he can deprive him of a right given by the constitution. I told him that I will not agree with it regardless whether I have to stay in jail,” he said.
Mahloof said that the judge even told him that it will be painful and sad to stay in jail. “I would like to tell him that he said the truth. It was painful and it did sadden me. And I had some sleepless nights. However, I will remain steadfast in defence of the constitution,” he said.
