Former President and leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Mauoon Abdul Gayoom has called the government to establish justice and political stability in the country.
President Gayoom made this remark speaking at the PPM and MDA rally held at Artificial Beach last night. He said that if the government wants to develop Madives as similar to Singapore then they should establish stability and justice.
He said that Lee Kuan Yew was not only the Prime Minister of Singapore but was also the founder of modern Singapore.
“He was the founder of Singapore. It is he who made Singapore the country it is today. The people of Singapore know this and accept this. Therefore, we should take lessons from them. We should establish justice and stability to build and develop our nation,” he said.
Gayoom said that this year Singapore will be also celebrating their 50th independence day similar to Maldives. He said that Singapore is one of the idealistic nations today because of their political stability.
“Without such political stability a country can never prosper. A country can never be developed. We say we want to make Maldives as developed as Singapore. If that is so we should take lessons from them and should establish peace and stability. We should establish social justice. We should stop the enmity between us. And without establishing all this we can never reach the development Singapore has reached today,” he said.
In addition to this, Gayoom said that all political parties should work to reach this goal. He said that PPM should also work to achieve this by guiding the people to justice and stability.
During the celebration, Gayoom praised Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim for his services. He said that he was a sincere member of the Peoples’ Majlis.
Meanwhile, President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla claimed that Gayoom was forced at gun point to participate at the PPM rally.
