Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the people are now obliged to stay “Stop” to the tyranny of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Ameen made this remark speaking at the joint meeting of MDP, Jumhooree Party and Adhaalath at the Male’ City Council’s hall.
Ameen said that the people elected Yameen as President to rule according to the constitution and not according to his whims and desires.
“A President does not have the authority to govern according to his whims. He has no authority to go beyond the boundaries set by the constitution,” he said.
He said that the constitution does not give the power to the President to do as he pleases and to arrest whom he pleases.
“The salary of the President is given by the wealth of the people. Salary is given to govern according to the constitution. The President should govern establishing justice and equality. The President should not tyrannize a people and please others. President Yameen has betrayed the people. He has betrayed the people who voted for him,” he said.
Ameen said that the Constitution guarantees that everyone is entitled to the rights and freedoms included in this Chapter without discrimination of any kind, including race, national origin, colour, sex, age, mental or physical disability, political or other opinion, property, birth or other status, or native island.
