The Government of Japan provided a grant of Japanese Yen 500 million (approximately 64 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) to the Government of Maldives under the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Disaster Reduction Equipment for 2014”, for procuring a range of essential Disaster Reduction Equipment manufactured by Japanese enterprises. The purpose of this grant is to support the promotion of economic and social development goals of Maldives through improving resilience to disasters.
The equipment provided under this grant scheme were selected by the Government of Maldives in consultation with the line agencies concerned. Japan also provided a grant amounting to Japanese Yen 100 million (approximately 18 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) under the “Non-Project Grant Aid for the Provision of Japanese SME’s Products” in 2014 and a grant amounting to Japanese Yen 200 million (approximately 36 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) to procure a variety of medical equipment for the use by regional and Atoll hospitals under the same scheme. The Government and the people of Japan hope that the Disaster Reduction Equipment provided would be effectively utilized to enhance the living conditions of the needy people of Maldives.
The signing of the Exchange of Notes took place between Nobuhito Hobo, Ambassador of Japan to Maldives and Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on April 7, 2015 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male.
