Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis Abdullah Maseeh has stated that the Supreme Court decisions are respected in the biggest democracies of the world.
Maseeh made this remark speaking at the breakfast held to the media by the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. He said that it is important to revive such good democratic etiquettes in the Maldives as well.
During his speech he noted the vote issues between Bush and Gore during the 2000 Presidential Election in USA and the recent pension issues during the current Obama administration.
He said that a popular person can make bad judgements and also that which harms the whole nation. He said that in that case it should be accepted that such a person has done wrong.
In this regard, Speaker Maseeh brought the example of the world famous football player Zinedine Zidane. He said that the people accepted the red card against him even though it shocked them to lose such a great player.
Miadhu Daily understands that Zidane was given the red card when the linesman notified the referee regarding the foul committed by him. However in Maldives the referee changes the linesmen to issue the verdict of his choice.
