President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that every child should be a sportsman and should aim to wear the national team jersey.
The President made this remark speaking at the Milo Colours Award 2013 ceremony held yesterday.
President Yameen said that sports is as important for the child’s development as education and every child should be given the opportunity to become a sportsman through the education system.
The President noted that in addition to being a source of just plain fun, sports promote healthy development in many areas with positive effects that last into adulthood.
He said that it also helps in the child’s social development. He said that children who do sports develop leadership and teambuilding skills and enhance their knowledge of social rules and roles.
In addition to this the President said that every child will want to become Ali Ashfaq and their dream will be to wear the National Team Jersey.
