Former Defence Minister (retired) Mohamed Nazim has been sent to Asseyri prison in Hihmafushi following the prison sentence of 11 years issued by the Criminal Court last night.
Nazim’s legal team found that he was taken to Asseyri prison by the Corrections Officers by a speed boat. The family states that the driver of the speed boat refused to tell them the destination.
Nazim’s legal team says that his health is in a serious condition and the doctor recommends to take him abroad for further medication and tests. The legal team raised concern regarding the lack of sufficient treatment available in Maldives.
Following the Criminal Court verdict to sentence Nazim for 11 years in prison, his mother has been hospitalized.
The legal team said that they were hoping that Nazim will be given the opportunity to visit his mother.
