The legal team of former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim has called the Maldives Media Council to investigate the information which was spread by “Vaguthu” online news website regarding the ongoing trial of Nazim.
Nazim’s legal team accused Vaguthu of spreading misinformation and lies to misguide the people regarding the case. The legal team expressed their concern regarding the information spread by the news paper.
The press release issued by the legal team alleged that the article published on Vaguthu on Monday, which claimed that the documents present in the pen drive had leaked is based on untrue stories and facts.
Nazim’s legal team stated that Vaguthu was trying to cause doubts regarding the integrity of the legal team and portray to the people as the “bad person”.
They stressed that they did not take any photographs of the documents during the court hearings. They stated that the documents are given during the hearings at the presence of court officers and the judges.
The press release noted that all attorneys are allowed inside the courtroom after being checked by a "handheld metal detector" by court officials, and that their position inside the courtroom does not allow them to do such activities without being noticed by the court officials.
