Education is the single most important element needed for human dignity- Gasim
Founder of Villa College and Villa Foundation, Gasim Ibrahim has said that education is the single most important element needed for human dignity.

Gasim Ibrahim made this remark at the address sent to Ville College Convocation 2015 held yesterday morning at Dharubaaruge convention center.

“Graduates, let me first offer my congratulations. I am very proud to be part of the celebration of your success.

This year our nation celebrates fifty years of independence. We all know that the foundation of freedom is the recognition of human dignity and equal rights to the individual to all basic necessities. Education is the most basic of human necessities,” he said.

Gasim added that our nation has achieved remarkable milestones in terms of provisions of education in the lapse of fifty years since the date of our independence and almost fifty five years since the introduction of basic education in the Maldives in 1960s.

“A few years back who could have imagined the possibility of attaining a tertiary education qualification in the Maldives,” he said.

He said that the fact that all of you are gathered here to receive your degrees achieved without having to sacrifice your jobs and without having to spend time away from your families is proof enough of the progress we have made in education.

“Today we are not simply celebrating fifty years of national independence but also fifty years of educational progress,” he said.

Furthermore, Gasim said that this is very opportune time to reflect on the power of liberation only education can bring to the people.

“I regard education to be an invaluable investment. For me it is worth any cost because it paves a path of access to other goods renewed by the society, most importantly self-empowerment,” he said.
