Deputy Minister of Gender, Shidhatha Shareef has resigned from her post stating that she is not happy with the current appalling state of the government.
Shidhatha who is from Adhaalath Party stated that she felt very uneasy to work in a government that is violating the rights of the people and oppressing them while she was in a post which requires her to work to establish equality and human rights.
“I made this decision on my own. I did not face in pressure by the government or my party to resign from this post,” she said.
However, she said that she made the decision also as a show of respect to her party’s decision of making a stand against the government, while the party had also urged its members to act on that decision.
She stressed that the government is not going in the right direction with regards to social protection and human rights.
“The people are raising questions regarding the current state of the government. The people are raising questions regarding the judiciary. The people are not getting justice, equality and fairness. This is witnessed in all spheres of life under the current administration,” she said.
Shidhaathaa was appointed to the post of Deputy Minister for the Gender Ministry on April 2013.
