Thousands took to the street to oppose oppression of the current administration.
All who spoke during the rally stated that oppression is not restricted to physical oppression. They stated that framing innocents with crimes they did not do and imprisoning them is also oppression. They added that causing undue influence to the judiciary is also a great oppression.
In this regard, the protestors raised concern regarding the terrorism charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed.
“Abdulla Mohamed was detained by the defence force. He was kept by them. Therefore if what the defence force did is an act of terror then the defence force is a terrorist organization,” a participant stated.
They also noted that there are childlike arguments made against former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazin during his trial.
The protestors also called the government to stop attacking and oppressing Gasim Ibrahim by attacking his businesses.
By joining last night’s protest, PPM Spokesperson, Galolhu Dhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof participated in his first political activity against PPM leadership.
Mahloof strongly criticized the government during the rally.
