Corruption is rampant because of the insincerity of leaders
Keyodhoo MP, Sheikh Moosa Nizar has said that corruption is rampant in Maldives because of the insincerity of leaders.

Sheikh Moosa Nizar made this remark speaking at the plenary debate which was carried out for the Bill on Amendment to the Anti-Corruption Act, submitted on behalf of the Government by Asma Rasheed, MP for Maafannu-Central constituency.

He said that his remark is not a criticism on one particular government but it has been the case with all governments.

“Previous governments also came with promises to serve the people and protect their interests however after coming to power everyone sought to protect their own interests. They had no sincerity with regards to the trust given to them by Allaah,” he said.

Sheikh Moosa Nizar said that this is clear from the reports issued by the Auditor General.

“We have seen reports exposing the corruptions involving 2 billion Ruffiya. Not only in the past two years but even the years before them,” he said.

He said that the responsibility for these corruption should be taken first and foremost by the President.

“Thereafter then those under him. Top officials of the government. Those who misuse their position and state funds for their own gain and for political motives,” he said.
